The First triumvirate
Marcus Licinius Crassus was a Roman general and politician. Crassus was another one of Julius Caesar's allies who was very helpful to Caesar's rise to power. Crassus was wealthy and used that wealth to help Caesar. Even though Crassus and Pompey did not get along, Caesar was able to form a partnership among them. Crassus, Pompey, and Caesar formed the First Triumvirate.
Gaul
Gaul is located in present day France and Belgium. Julius Caesar conquered all of Gaul, up to the river Rhine, with campaigns between 58 B.C. and 52 B.C.
The end of the first triumvirate
Tensions were growing between Pompey and Julius Caesar as Caesar gained more and more popularity among the people. Meanwhile, Crassus was killed in a battle in Syria. Then Caesar's army marched into Rome, taking control of Rome in 49 B.C. Fighting persisted for 18 months, until the defeated Pompey was chased into Egypt where he was later killed.
Cleopatra
In Egypt Caesar was involved with Cleopatra and together they had a son named Caesarion. Caesar also helped Cleopatra gain the Egyptian throne.
Dictator For life
When Julius Caesar returned to Rome he was made dictator for life and was called Father of his Country.
